A procedure often used in the diagnosis of brain tumors. A specialized "frame" is used to hold a patient's head or other body part stationary while the biopsy needle is directed to exactly the right spot. Usually a CT scanner or other computer-associated equipment is used to find the correct position. This method has also been applied recently to very small breast cancers.
